As part of the SiCeramica project, the initiative “Sport and the Ceramic District”, organised by Confindustria Ceramica together with the Dante Alighieri Institute of Modena, concluded successfully.

The “Sport and the Ceramic District” project involved 14 students from the Dante Alighieri Institute of Modena — from the Administration, Finance and Marketing programme, the Scientific High School and the Sports High School — who worked for a week, from 23 to 27 February, on topics such as sport, sponsorship, business planning and the design of sporting events with a focus on sustainability.

The students acquired knowledge on these topics through classroom lessons, which they then used to design sporting events with a strong focus on sustainability and with the aim of promoting the Sassuolo ceramic district. Divided into three teams, the students analysed the relationship between companies and sports sponsorship, with support from Luigi Giuliani, a long-standing journalist at Il Resto del Carlino, and Ecoevents — an Italian benefit company specialising in making events more sustainable. They then designed sporting events, taking care of every detail: economic and sustainability aspects, sponsor research, organisation and inclusion, and promotional strategies.

The challenge concluded on 27 February with the official presentation of the three competing projects:

  • Run4All (Team 1): a running and cycling event, suitable also for families, passing through the symbolic landmarks of the ceramic industry and the historic centre of the city of Sassuolo.

  • Ceramic Family Cup (Team 2): a multi-sport tournament (football and volleyball) dedicated to the wellbeing of employees of companies in the district, organised at the Cà Marta sports centre.

  • Stafftlon (Team 3): a high-level sporting event (similar to a triathlon) designed to promote the image of the district internationally, starting in Maranello and finishing in Sassuolo along a route divided into three stages.

Team 1 won the challenge, followed by Team 3 in second place and Team 2 in third.
Both students and teachers expressed great satisfaction with the work carried out, confirming the importance of presenting the ceramic district from a different perspective — that of sport.
