Clay building materials 07 July 2025 There are 57 manufacturers of clay building materials (bricks, blocks and roof tiles) in Italy, employing a total workforce of around 3,000 people. In 2024, production was carried out at 75 plants and amounted to 4.1 million tonnes. The Italian clay building materials industry is distinguished by the wide range of products it places on the market, including wall units — both standard and lightweight — hollow blocks, floor and roof elements, facing bricks, roofing tiles and special pieces. Production facilities are located throughout the country, with a higher concentration of companies in Northern Italy, where more than 1.9 million tonnes were produced in 2024. Plants in Central and Southern Italy accounted for over 2 million tonnes of output. According to estimates, the sector generated a turnover of approximately €700 million in 2024.
