REACH is a European Union regulation adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from risks arising from chemical substances. Ceramic products are manufactured using inorganic, non-metallic raw materials in powder form, such as clays, feldspars and sands, which are transformed into solid ceramic products through a high-temperature firing process.
Under the Regulation, ceramic products are classified as “articles” (“an object which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition”) and are therefore exempt from the application of the specific provisions relating to substances and mixtures.
With the support of Ceramicolor, Federchimica, Cerame-Unie and national and international research bodies, Confindustria Ceramica collects information throughout the supply chain on substances used in the production process, in order to ensure that member companies can market safe products.
