Activities Activities The 2024–2029 Manifesto of the European ceramic Industry The 2024–2029 Manifesto of the European Ceramic Industryof Cerame-Unie (the European sector federation of which the Association is a member) sets out the priorities of the European ceramic industry for the new European legislative term. In order to ensure that it remains possible to manufacture ceramics in Europe — a material essential to achieving the EU’s sustainability objectives — climate policies must be implemented that also take into account the social and economic sustainability of the necessary decarbonisation pathway. In this regard, we consider reform of the ETS system to be indispensable. It must: allow for compensation of indirect costs in order to promote the electrification of production processes; broaden access to equivalent measures for SMEs and small emitters; ensure that free allocation rules effectively protect against the risk of carbon leakage; establish fair allocation rules for cogeneration; and review the role of financial actors within the ETS system. About energy, the industry calls for guaranteed access to sufficient sources of green energy at competitive prices within an integrated European market. As a strongly export-oriented sector, we also consider it essential to ensure specific export measures within the framework of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), so as to enable EU producers to remain competitive in international markets. This must be accompanied by the need to safeguard a genuine level playing field both within and outside the EU single market, including the swift deployment of effective trade defence instruments where necessary. The document also advocates the adoption of policies grounded in scientific evidence. In this respect, the European ceramic industry supports material-neutral policies in the field of construction, taking into account the entire life cycle of products, including their durability and resistance, as well as regulatory instruments and standards (e.g. BREF, food contact materials, RCS, REACH, etc.) harmonised across the European Union.
